Are you ready to make your grocery list, run to the supermarket and get to work?

Italian tiramisu – what is it?

Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert, the main ingredient of which is strong, aromatic coffee. Its combination with delicate mascarpone cheese and soft biscuits soaked in a few drops of amaretto liqueur creates a truly delicious taste, which you can quickly get addicted to.

This dessert should be served well chilled – then it is moist and melts in the mouth very nicely. And the cocoa sprinkles further enhance the delight of this culinary sin. Two alternating layers – sponge cakes soaked in coffee and liqueur and cheese and egg mass – blend in perfectly.

As we mentioned at the very beginning, the word tiramisu means “lift me up … cheer”. Although some trace his roots back to the times of kings and queens, the theory of his birth in Venice in the 1950s seems the most plausible. Today, this dessert is known all over the world and has its die-hard fans on all continents.

There are also many different versions of this dessert: with the addition of chocolate, pistachios, strawberries, raspberries or other fruit. In fact, there is nothing to prevent you from making them to your liking.

Meet today with us a simple and quick recipe for homemade Italian tiramisu. Remember that if children are to eat it, you should exclude amaretto liqueur. Otherwise, don’t feel sorry for this addition that will make your dessert really special.

What’s more, our second proposal is low-calorie, so anyone without remorse can afford a piece or even two to lift their spirits and regain good humor. You choose: classic or “slimmed” classic.

Ingredients for classic Italian tiramisu

  • 480 g of mascarpone cheese
  • 360 g of biscuits (all Italian recipes recommend the Savoiardi brand)
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar (240 g)
  • Half a cup of amaretto liqueur (125 ml)
  • A few tablespoons of 100% cocoa powder (120 g)
  • 1/2 tablespoon of salt (8 g)
  • 2 cups of strong coffee (400 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla essence (15 ml)
  • Aluminum foil

Step 1:

  • First, boil some water in a small pot.
  • Meanwhile, separate the yolks from the egg whites and put each in a suitable dish.
  • Place the yolks in a metal bowl, add half the powdered sugar and a tablespoon of vanilla essence. Then beat the whole thing.
  • At the end of whisking, place the bowl on a pot of boiling water and mix until you get a smooth, creamy mass. Also slowly add Amaretto liqueur.
  • Finally, remove the prepared cream from the pot, put out the fire and keep whisking for a while.
  • Then cover the bowl with aluminum foil and set aside for a while.

Step 2:

  • The next step is to mix the prepared egg, sugar and liqueur mass with the mascarpone cheese. The ingredients should blend well together to create a fluffy and creamy foam.
  • Then beat the egg whites to a stiff foam, adding a pinch of salt and the rest of the sugar while whisking.
  • Now gently mix the whipped foam with the previously prepared egg-cheese mass. This is best done by hand using a wooden spoon.
  • Put the mixture aside for a while and prepare the coffee in the meantime.
  • When the coffee has cooled down a bit, dip the biscuits into it. Make sure the drink soaks well. Otherwise, the dessert may come out a bit dry.
  • Finally, “assemble” the dessert on a baking tray or in any other container, layering the biscuits and the cream on top of them. Make as many layers as the number of ingredients will allow.
  • Finally, sprinkle over the top of the cocoa powder and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. However, it is recommended that you leave the dessert in a cold place overnight.
  • Ready. Enjoy your meal!

Low calorie tiramisu

More and more often we reach for recipes for healthier and less caloric dishes. However, this does not mean that we have to give up delicious cakes and desserts. It is enough to prepare them from healthier and more nutritious products. Instead of refined sugar, we can choose other, much more valuable sweeteners.

  • 2 cups of light cheese (240 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch (15 g)
  • 1/2 cup of milk (125 ml)
  • Cocoa powder 100%

A method of preparing

  • First, beat the yolks with three tablespoons of milk, a tablespoon of cornstarch, stevia (or any other natural sweetener), then put the whipped mass in the microwave for 3 minutes to make it churn a little.
  • The next step is to pour this mass into a metal bowl and cook it in a water bath until it thickens.
  • Put the remaining ingredients, except biscuits, in a separate bowl, mix well and put in the microwave for 3 minutes.
  • Finally, prepare a mold or any other dish and lay out the biscuits and cream in layers until you run out of ingredients. Then sprinkle the top of the cocoa powder and refrigerate the dessert for at least 2 hours.
